Family Summer Bucket List

With Memorial Day behind us and the 1st of June a couple days away, it seems like it is time to announce my family's Summer Bucket List!

Family Summer Bucket List - Exploring Iowa and the Midwest

This year our family came up with a list of 10 things to do this summer that lead us to explore our backyard of North Iowa, some places across Iowa, and to travel the Midwest.  Combine this list with our Family Summer Bucket List from last year, and it looks like we have a fun summer ahead of us!

  1. Go Camping at Beed's Lake or Pine Lake
  2. Host a Baconfest on our farm
  3. Check out RAGBRAI Byciclist as they come through North Iowa
  4. Have fun at a Surf Ballroom Rock "n" Tots lesson
  5. Watch one of the Fireworks Shows during the Pyrotechnics Guild International (PGI) convention
  6. Go to an Iowa Cubs Baseball Game
  7. Shop the Des Moines Farmer's Market
  8. Visit a Science Center or Children's Museum
  9. Go on an Iowa Ice Cream Trip
  10. Continue our Tradition of going on a Family Vacation

We are so excited to check these items off our list and to share our experiences on the blog!  What is on your Summer Bucket List?  Remember to Comment for a Cause!

  1. Glad you're sharing this! I needed some ideas. One thing I've been meaning to do is check out the Amana Colonies!

    1. You should go! I am actually going to the Amana Colonies for some shopping and eating during a Girl's Weekend this summer. They have so many fun shops and I love to eat at the Colony Inn and the Ronneburg Inn probably most, but all the restaurants are good!

    3. Check out the CVB website before you go. They have festivals all year long!

    1. Last year was the first time I actually wrote out a list and it came in very handy to turn to make sure we were checking off all of our ideas and to keep track of all our ideas!

  3. This is a great list! I am an Iowan, born and raised but live in WA now! We are visiting for 3 weeks in June/July and will have to remember some of these!

  4. Baconfest? That sounds like something I could get behind! Any specific ideas for a vacation spot?

    1. Oh yes, our own personal Baconfest! We want to have family and friends over and thought it'd be fun to have a bacon inspired get together where everyone will be asked to bring a appetizer, salad or dessert that has bacon in it, and then we'd take can of the main dish by smoking some pork (with bacon probably wrapped around it).

As for vacations, we are actually leaning towards traveling through South Dakota for a few days.

  5. You should check out Hansen's Farm Fresh Dairy in Hudson, Iowa. They give tours of their dairy, have wallabees (kangaroo), homemade ice cream, and the opportunity to feed a calf, milk a cow, and make butter. It's so much fun. :) The owners are some of the nicest people you could meet.

    1. Megan, we actually are planning on going to Hansen's Dairy as part of our Ice Cream Tour. I went on their farm tour probably 5+ years ago but my kids have never been and I hear that they have a lot more now for tours. We're looking forward to it!

    1. Yes you should, and then make a blog post about it and then link it up!

  8. Ah, this makes me want to create a blog to link up. Great idea. Bucket lists are goal lists in disguise. A goal driven life is great. Do your kids have their own bucket lists for the summer?

    1. My kids don't have their own since they are only 3 and 1 so that is why we have a family bucket list for this summer. When they're a little older I'll have to have them make their own :)

  9. Alrighty... I did one! Thanks for the inspiration, Val!
