Our family has gotten so excited about the Freedom Rock coming to our local county, that we have started going on our own Freedom Rock Tour in our local area so far, but are looking forward to checking out different county Freedom Rocks around the state of Iowa throughout the summer.
We've taken car rides twice in the last month to check out neighboring county Freedom Rocks. One Sunday after church we took a Sunday drive over to Dows, Iowa, where the Wright County Freedom Rock is located.
Then on Memorial Day we went on a road-trip to Ackley, Iowa to see the Hardin County Freedom Rock
and over to Greene, Iowa to check out Butler County Freedom Rock.
I love how each Freedom Rock is unique, yet there is the same sense of pride and honor in each rock's artwork. We also noticed that each rock has had an American flag "draped" over it. We can't wait to continue our Freedom Rock Tour this summer!

I live about 4 miles from the Bremer co Freedom Rock on Hwy 3 at Retrieving Freedom. And my daughter lives in a tiny town in southern Iowa, Blockton, and they have their county's freedom rock. We always see people stopping to look at it. They always make me smile.
ReplyDeleteI love how they are definitely all related but different. What a great cause. Maybe you can tie in your freedom rock tour with your ice cream tour and really have some fun road trips!
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents always enjoyed visiting these Freedom Rocks in local towns in the Southeast part of the state. They are beautifully done but I've only see pictures. As many times as we go to Iowa, you would think we could have managed to visit one ourselves :)
ReplyDeleteYou're going to have to pull up the map the next time you're in the state and go see one for yourself. The county rocks are usually in smaller towns and even a little off the beaten path. It's nice that when going on a tour of them you get to see some new places and town.
