We couldn't have asked for a better dog

We came to the end of an era on our farm.  Bailey, our old faithful dog, passed away after over 12 1/2 years of companionship.  We got her as a wedding gift from one of my sisters and she has been a special part of our family and farm ever since.

Bailey was a special and sweet dog who greeted everyone with a warm smile and a wag of her tail.  She preferred scratches behind the ears and belly rubs over treats and toys.  Her favorite daily activity was helping with chores and taking a pick-up ride to the pig barns.

She lived a good, long life on the farm.  Each new season gave her a new pep in her step.  She loved the winter snow.  We have many memories of her letting the snow fall on top of her while she slept and then we'd see a "snow pile" come to life as she'd shake off the freshly fallen snow.

Springtime meant digging time.  She buried her treasures to make sure they were good and "aged" before she enjoyed them and never minded getting a little dirty...

She loved getting her summer shave each year to stay cool and could always be found watching the kids, going on hunts and adventures, or keeping close to the action in the shop.

In the fall she would check crops and pull out entire stalks of corn to "dissect and evaluate" that year's crop.

Bailey will always hold a special place in our family's hearts.  She was a part of so many milestones for our family.  She will be missed.  We couldn't have asked for a better family and farm dog.  She gave us endless loyalty, protection, comfort and entertainment over the years and she left some big paws to fill!

  11. This qualitative study aimed to investigate how dog owners' relationships and sense of connection with their canine companions were impacted by Covid-19 limitations. The researchers used directed content analysis to code the themes from open-ended questions that were used to collect the data through an online survey. The findings showed that dog ownership during this pandemic decreased participants' feelings of isolation and loneliness and benefited their mental and physical health. They also demonstrated a deep human-animal appreciation.
