Raising our kids on the farm is one of my favorite parts of our livelihood. I am proud to be raising the 6th generation of farmers in my family. My husband and I work hard everyday so our farm is sustainable for our children to continue on our family's farming legacy. In honor of National Ag Day, I thought it'd be fun to interview the next generation (aka our kids), about what it means to grow up on the farm. Enjoy!

What is your favorite part of living on the farm? My favorite part is that we can go outside and have lots of room to have fun. We have a lot more space than in the city. And we get to eat pork all the time!
What is your favorite season on the farm? Harvest. I like to ride in the combine and tractors. I also like to pick up ears of corn from the field and take off each kernel. I count each kernel and figure out what the yield is.

Raising kids on the farm is something special. They get a hands on experience of the day to day operations of our farm and they get to see the life cycle of producing food for our dinner table, as well as others across the world. They also understand what a hard day of work is and what responsibility means. And as you can tell from their answers, they love the feeling of wide open spaces & the freedom of being on the farm.
Do you have any questions about farm life for our family?
From one Iowa girl...you are building a beautiful future for your children! I hope the farm stays with them!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Patty! I hope so too!
DeleteThanks, Val. You brought me back to growing up on the farm myself. The age doesn't change the love of space, nature, and freedom. There was a feeling of honor and pride in helping to get things done... so great for kids to experience and use throughout life.

Thanks Joyce!
DeleteMy thoughts echo Joyce Rice Ross comments - truly grateful I grew up on a farm. One added benefit was the opportunity to have wildlife as part of the every day experience. Great memories for an Easter Saturday morning. Thank you, Val, for that gift.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl! The farm truly is a special place.
DeleteLovely post and beautiful kids! Can only imagine how much happier and healthier all youngsters would be were they blessed to have been raised as you are rearing yours! Bless you all and thank you for your part in the health of our country!
