Iowa Ice Cream Road Trip at The Olde Creamery in Garner, Mason City and Clear Lake, Iowa

It's June Dairy Month and our family loves to celebrate by going on an Iowa Ice Cream Road Trip. This year we kicked off our 10th annual road trip by checking out all three locations of The Olde Creamery in North Central Iowa in Garner, Mason City and Clear Lake.

The Olde Creamery has quickly become a North Iowa favorite in just over a year since opening up their first location in Garner, Iowa in an old creamery building, Memorial Day 2022. Since then they've opened up a location in Downtown Mason City in the Brick & Tile Building in July 2022 and new this year in May 2023, a seasonal location in Clear Lake near the Surf Ballroom & Museum.

The Old Creamery makes a variety of hard, hand scooped, homemade ice cream flavors at their Garner location daily, to supply all three locations. Ice cream flavors are swapped out often and are varied at each location. In addition to their delicious ice cream, they make waffle cones, "fancy cones", brownies and cookies to go alongside their ice cream. Our kids became quick fans of their fancy waffle cones and bowls and fancy sugar and cake cones. The "fancy cones" are dipped in chocolate and can also be sprinkled with nuts or sprinkles. You can get their ice cream served in a cup, cone, in a sundae, ice cream sandwich, shake or malt.

We also noticed that both the Mason City and Clear Lake locations had "signature" ice cream flavors. Mason City's River City Cheesecake is a raspberry, white chocolate, cheesecake ice cream that I thought was a great flavor combination. And Clear Lake's The Big Bopper ice cream is a vanilla ice cream with cookie dough, chocolate chip cookies and fudge swirl!

We have yet to try a flavor between all six of us that we wouldn't order again, but one flavor that quickly has become a family favorite is Death by Chocolate! Now, we are all chocolate lovers, but this chocolate, oreo, brownie and fudge swirl ice cream is the perfect balance of chocolate. It's not too chocolately or too rich. It's a great chocolate ice cream to indulge in! A kid favorite is their Dirt 'n Worms chocolate ice cream with oreos and of course gummy worms! They also have a few dairy free ice creams available so everyone can enjoy a sweet treat at their stores.

Both the Garner and Mason City locations have indoor and outdoor seating available, along with a kid play area, and the Clear Lake location has outdoor seating only. They also carry pints to go and have a variety of local and Iowa made products available for purchase in their gift shoppes.

Be sure to make a stop at any of The Olde Creamery's ice cream locations, or find their ice cream truck on the road to enjoy some creamy, homemade ice cream! Have you been to any of The Olde Creamery locations? What's your favorite flavor?
