Iowa Ice Cream Road Trip at Casa Chameleon in Belmond

For the last eight years our family has went on an Iowa Ice Cream Road Trip every June in recognition of National Dairy Month.  To start off this year's road trip we stayed fairly close to home and checked out Casa Chameleon in Belmond, Iowa, that is known for having a large variety of soft serve ice cream flavors.  In fact, when we visited they had 45 flavors to choose from!

Casa Chameleon is a seasonal restaurant in downtown Belmond, Iowa that serves ice cream and pizza, along with other snacks.  The kids loved that they served ice cream AND pizza and we all wondered why we hadn't made the trip over to have the combo before!  This summertime spot is open in the evenings around Memorial Day to Labor Day, but keep an eye on their Facebook page for their official days and hours.

Now let's talk ice cream!  Casa Chameleon serves soft serve ice cream that is made to order.  Watching them make the ice cream was just as much of a treat as eating it!  To make each individual creation, they take vanilla soft serve ice cream, mix in your flavor preference and then they put the mixture into the final part of their machine to twist the newly created ice cream out and serve.

When we visited Casa Chameleon they had 45 flavors of ice cream to choose from, ranging from classics like Chocolate, Strawberry and Butter Pecan, to more unique (and may I add delicious) flavors like German Chocolate, Tutti Frutti and Watermelon.  You can choose to have your ice cream served in a cone, dish, sundae, shake or as a lizzard.  I went with a lizzard on our trip that used Fudge Brownie ice cream with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups mixed in.

Casa Chameleon is a great summertime treat for all ages and we can't wait for our next Pizza & Ice Cream night there!  With so many flavors of ice cream to choose from, we'll be able to make many repeat trips to try them all!  What would you choose - would you go with a classic flavor, or choose something more unique?
