Week Two of our 2021 Iowa Ice Cream Road Trip brought us to the town of Jefferson, Iowa, home to the Twiins Shoppe, a seasonal ice cream shop whose outdoor seating area and murals invite you in to relax and enjoy your favorite ice cream treat.
The Twiins Shoppe is everything I love and look forward to in a small town ice cream shop. It offers both hard and soft serve ice cream and has a variety of specialty dishes. They have a walk up window to order everything from a cup or a cone, to a shake, sundae or chiller. One of their employees convinced me to try their Salted Nut Roll Sundae and it hit the spot!
The kids went for shakes that use their soft serve ice cream or a hard scoop of ice cream in a cone. A fun added detail to their shakes and malts is that they add an animal cracker on top, which the girls loved!
We can't wait to come back and try different ice cream treats, as well as explore Jefferson some more in the future. They offer a wide variety of hard ice cream from Birthday Cake, to Brownie Smore, to Java Chunk, to Monster Cookie and their soft serve and shake flavors range from Strawberry, to Black Raspberry, to Marshmallow, to Hot Fudge. They have something for everyone's taste buds and I appreciated they offered a range of sizes going from baby to large. We also, need to make a return trip because we were told if you go to the top of the Mahanay Carillon Bell Tower, which is just a block to the northeast from Twiins, you can see an additional mural on the top of the ice cream shop!
