Iowa Ice Cream Road Trip at The Olde Creamery in Rockwell, Iowa

Summer can feel like you're constantly on the go. So that's why a quick Iowa Ice Cream Road Trip pit stop is always worth the break!

This week, we found ourselves traveling between a 4-H workshop and a softball game with just enough time to grab supper. Instead of stopping at the gas station or grabbing some fast food, we made a stop at one of our family's favorite places: The Olde Creamery in Rockwell, Iowa.

Last year, The Olde Creamery opened its Rockwell location in the former ice cream shop in town. As a family that lives nearby, we were happy to see the business take over the space and continue the tradition of serving ice cream to the community.

Small-town ice cream shops are part of what makes Iowa summers special. They're gathering places where neighbors run into neighbors, kids celebrate little victories, and families make memories over a cone or sundae. We're grateful that The Olde Creamery chose to invest in Rockwell and keep that tradition alive.

The Rockwell location has outdoor seating and yard games available, so the kids (and adults) can burn off a little energy while everyone enjoys their ice cream. It turns a simple stop for dessert into a fun family activity, which is something we always appreciate during the busy summer months.

Why We Love The Olde Creamery

A few years ago, I wrote about our family's Iowa ice cream road trip adventures and our visits to the other Olde Creamery locations. We love that they have a large flavor variety lineup that is constantly rotating, which means there is always something new to try. And at the same time, family favorites frequently make a return appearance.

The variety is impressive. Whether you love chocolate, fruit flavors, cheesecake-inspired creations, classic vanilla, or something completely unique, there is usually something that catches your eye. They also offer dairy-free options.

Beyond the flavor selection, the ice cream is simply good quality ice cream. Rich, creamy, and satisfying.

It's the kind of place where you leave full and happy!

Since this stop happened during supper time, I started with a pickle dog (they offer a variety of specialty hotdogs) before moving on to the important part — the ice cream!

I went with two scoops: I chose Rebel Cheesecake, the Rockwell location's signature strawberry cheesecake flavor, along with one of our family's longtime favorites, Death by Chocolate. The combination was great! The creamy strawberry cheesecake paired perfectly with the rich chocolate flavor, and I was reminded once again why we keep coming back.

If summer finds you traveling through North Iowa, I highly recommend making a stop at The Olde Creamery in Rockwell or one of the other locations in Garner or Mason City.

What makes a perfect summer night for you and your family?
