My "backyard" is starting to show signs of stress due to a lack of rain but yet, I remain optimistic about the crop.
I can't believe how much the corn ears are growing despite no rain! The corn is now at R3 which is known as the milk stage. The kernels are now yellow on the outside and have a milky white fluid in the kernels, which is the beginning of starch accumulation.
You can see how large the ear of corn is compared to my hand |
R3 Corn |
There are 16 rows on this ear of corn |
Now onto my hog's "backyard." The soybeans continue to grow well despite the lack of rain.
Here's a look at how large the soybean pods are today.
Have you gotten rain this week? How long has it been since you had a measurable rain?
Your crops look pretty decent! Something to be thankful for.
ReplyDeleteYes, we do feel pretty thankful that the crop looks as good as it does. The corn has changed a lot in the past this week. If we get good rains I think the soybeans will turn out just fine.
DeleteWe got 7/10ths the other night, but that's about it for the past couple weeks. The wheat is turning since its been so hot. And if it stays this hot and dry, we'll probably be combining in 3 weeks or so.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember the last time we got that much rain! Then I think back to how rain and wet fields kept us out during planting... Oh how things have changed!
DeleteYour crops are looking good for the lack of rain! Did you get rain on Wednesday night? Is that a Channel field in your back yard?
ReplyDeleteThanks Klaire. Most of our fields only got 1/10 of an inch on Wednesday and the fields that got more, got wind damage to go along with. And yes, of course, that is Channel in our backyard!
