Pantry Trail Mix

The end of summer has arrived with the first day of school today so that means two things: #1 - time to clean out the pantry of all the partial snacks, crackers and goodies gathered over the course of t-ball games, fair and road trips, and #2 - time to celebrate the first day of school with a fun afternoon snack.  Put those two things together and we have Pantry Trail Mix.

Pantry Trail Mix - a perfect snack to help clean out your pantry and kitchen

We have had a blast this summer but I love that our oldest two children were so excited to start school today.  Cue the obligatory first day of school photos:

And I always love to do something special for the first day back to school so I made a batch of Pantry Trail Mix.  Pantry Trail Mix is really simple, just throw together whatever you have in your pantry to make a new, special treat.  Lot of things can be combined to make a Pantry Trail Mix:

The key is start combining flavors you think would go together and add them a 1/2 cup at a time til you get the right combination and ratio.  When our family makes a Pantry Trail Mix we usually combine five or six items together to make one new, fun snack mix.  I love combining salty and sweet ingredients together, but you could go for a spicy mix by adding seasonings like chili powder, cumin, and garlic powder, or go all sweet.  The best thing about Pantry Trail Mix is there is no right or wrong way to do it, but many times you'll find a combination you love so much, you'll purposely keep the ingredients on hand so you can make it again the next time you need to clean out your pantry.  I hope you enjoy our delicious combination we created for the First Day of School:

2 cups Caramel Bugles
2 cups Corn Chips
2 cups Chocolate Covered Pretzels
1 1/2 cups Honey Nut Cheerios
1 cup M&Ms

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and stir to evenly distribute.

So the next time you're cleaning your kitchen or looking for a fun, new snack, I hope you create your very own Pantry Trail Mix!  What are your snack pantry staples?  Remember to Comment for a Cause.
