Iowa Ice Cream Road Trip at Dan & Debbie's Creamery in Ely, Iowa

Week Two of our 2020 Iowa Ice Cream Road Trip brought us to the small town of Ely, Iowa, home to Dan & Debbie's Creamery, who sell farm-fresh, wholesome dairy products including over a dozen small batch ice creams.

Every year as our family gets ready for our annual June Dairy Month Iowa Ice Cream Road Trip I ask my Facebook and Instagram followers for suggestions of places to visit and Dan & Debbie's Creamery has been a suggestion for the last few years.  Located near the Cedar Rapids & Iowa City corridor and along the Cedar Valley Nature Bike Trail, Dan & Debbie's Creamery welcomes both locals and those traveling or biking through town.

Dan & Debbie's Creamery offers farm-fresh dairy products made with milk directly from their 150 Holstein cow family farm.  When approaching the ice cream case we were excited to see and try a variety of flavors of their handcrafted ice cream.  You can buy the ice cream in a cone, dish, in an ice cream flight where you get to choose six flavors, or to go in a variety of sizes and options.  Our family's favorites were their Swiss Chocolate Chip, Cookies & Cream and top-seller Salted Caramel.  Each ice cream we tried was rich and creamy.

Besides ice cream, Dan & Debbie's Creamery offers cheese curds,
cheddar cheese, cream-top milk and other Iowa products

We were also excited to take home some of their fresh and squeaky cheese curds made from their dairy farm's milk.  Onion & Chive and Chipotle caught our eye, but they also make White Cheddar, Dill and Tomato Basil.  In their dairy case, they also sell blocks of cheddar cheese, milk from their farm and a variety of other Iowa products.

We encourage you to stop at Dan & Debbie's Creamery if you are in or traveling through East Central Iowa.  They are open seven days a week and you can always guarantee you are getting fresh, high-quality dairy products every time you visit.  Please note that due to COVID-19 at the time of our trip, they were only allowing up to 10 people inside the store at a time and their seating area and viewing room were not open.  They are also not offering creamery tours at this time, which just means we'll need to make a return visit! 😉

What is your go to flavor of ice cream when you go to an ice cream shop?  Have you ever indulged in an ice cream flight before?!

  1. What fun! There is nothing better than ice cream and squeaky cheese curds... we could make a meal out of that for sure!
