Our family has been big fans of WW Homestead Dairy's cheese curds for the last couple of years. In fact, we've even had their cheese curds shipped to our house! WW Homestead Dairy prides themselves on their cheese curds and even calls their hometown of Waukon, the "Iowa Cheese Curd Capital of Iowa." We love the high-quality and bold flavors of their cheese curds so we were excited to make the trip to Northeast Iowa to see where it all happens and try their ice cream!
We picked up a few bags of cheese curds on our visit too! |
I was impressed how smooth and silky their homemade ice cream was. You know how fresh homemade ice cream is slightly soft, even though it is a hard ice cream? Well, that's exactly how their ice cream was; you could taste the freshness and quality!
We visited on a Thursday afternoon and were impressed on the crowd coming and going through the store to grab an ice cream treat, pick up a bag of cheese curds, or grab a gallon of their milk. Besides selling their dairy farm's products mentioned above along with cheddar cheese, cottage cheese, and butter, they also have a "Coffee Barn", make grilled cheese sandwiches with their cheese curds and sell other Iowa gift items. So you know, they make their homemade ice cream on Wednesdays and make their cheese curds on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
We can't wait to make a return visit and hope to go on a tour of the WW Homestead Dairy farm once they offer them to the public again. Have you ever had WW Homestead Dairy's ice cream or cheese curds?
